Bought Mitarashi Dango in Omiya
While walking around Omiya, I stopped by a small wagashi shop called Kadoya and decided to try their mitarashi dango.
It’s a very simple shop, mainly for takeout, and there’s nothing flashy about it. But that’s exactly why it felt like a good place to try something local.
First Impression of the Shop
Kadoya has a very straightforward setup.

What I Noticed
- Small storefront
- No seating area
- Customers coming and going quickly
- Simple display of sweets
It feels like a place people use casually rather than a destination shop.
The Mitarashi Dango I Bought
I ordered one skewer of mitarashi dango.
Appearance
- Three round dumplings on a stick
- Coated with a glossy sauce
- Slightly browned surface from grilling
It looked simple, but the sauce stood out.
Taste and Texture
Here is what it actually felt like eating Kadoya’s mitarashi dango.
Taste
- Sweet but not strong
- Light soy sauce flavor
- Slight savory note in the background
The balance is mild rather than rich.
Texture
- Soft and chewy
- Slight firmness on the outside
- Easy to eat quickly
It’s not heavy, so it works well as a small snack.
Overall Impression
Kadoya’s mitarashi dango is very straightforward.
- Not overly sweet
- Not heavily flavored
- Simple and easy to eat
It doesn’t try to stand out with strong flavors, but it feels consistent with what you would expect from a local shop.
Price
The price was low enough to buy without thinking too much.
Price Range
- Around ¥100–¥200 per skewer
Good for a quick snack while walking.
